VANISHING TRACKS follows a nomadic Qashqai family at the foothills of Iran’s Zagros Mountains, caught between ancestral traditions and the pull of the city. Their three sons, attending school in Shiraz, are drawn to urban promises and digital distractions, questioning their parents’ traditional lifestyle. As the family prepares for their twice-yearly migration along ancient routes, the theft of 12 sheep launches the narrative. Blending observational realism with surreal flourishes, the film mirrors the family’s experience through the wandering sheep – adrift in the city streets, outsiders in a changing world. Tender, warm and quietly humorous, the film explores themes such as heritage, uprooting, adaptation, and the enduring bonds that hold families together amidst uncertainty about the future.
